Downloading BioEditor and BioViewer

1. BioEditor
BioEditor is the fully functional program which will enable you to create and read documentaries. ***Updated Version***. An updated version has been posted on December 22, 2004, which overcomes some earlier bugs. If you have previously installed BioEditor, you will need to remove the old version before installing the new version.

  • Uninstall Old Versions. If you have the older version (1.6.0 or before) of BioEditor/BioViewer installed, please un-install them first. Go to "Start" -> "Control Panel" -> "Add or Remove Program", select BioEditor or BioViewer, click the "Remove" button to un-install it. Due to a bug in the previous installer, you may need to push the "remove" button several times to completely remove it. After the old version is removed, please follow the instuctions to install BioEditor 1.6.0.
  • Install the latest version. Download the latest version of BioEditor.1.6.1. Unzip the installation package to your hard drive, e.g. C:\temp\. Go to "Start" -> "Run" -> "Browse" -> and navigate to the directory where you placed contents of the BioEditor.1.6.0.zip file. Double click setup.exe and the installshield will guide you through all necessary steps to install BioEditor. (You may need administrator's priviledge to do it).
  • Testing proper installation. After you finish the installation. Go to "Start" ->"Programs" -> "BioEditor" -> "BioEditor". If you encounter any problems in installing/using BioEditor or distributing BioViewer, please email Peng Yang at pyang@sdsc.edu with a subject line starting with "BIOEDITOR"

2. BioViewer
BioViewer is a read only version of BioEditor. This may be handy for teachers who create documentaries, and want their students to use the documentaries without being able to modify them. Like BioEditor, BioViewer should be installed in a folder which does not contain any spaces in its name or its path.

Note: Bioeditor and BioViewer both require that MDL Chime be installed.
